Wilderness Proposals
Wilderness protects areas permanently
There are many ways to carry out practical conservation, but official Wilderness designation by Congress is the most permanent way to ensure that roaldess areas will be permanently protected.

The Wild Ten
Central Colorado Wilderness Colalition proposes ten USFS or BLM areas in central Colorado for future Wilderness designation. They all exemplify the wilderness qualities that will help protect wildlife and biodivesrtiy. Several along the Arkansas River are especially important because of their low elevation.  Go to Central Colorado Wilderness Coalition's web site to learn more.
Colorado's Canyon Country Wilderness Proposal
The Colorado Wilderness Network coordinated inventories across the state that resulted in this proposal for 1.6 milacres of new BLM and USFS Wilderness. It is the basis of  the Colorado Wilderness Act of 2007 currently before Congress. Six of the Wild Ten are included in this legislation,
You can learn more about this proposal at
Colorado Evnrironmental Coalition's wilderness page.
