Basic Map and Compass Skills Dayhike
Saturday, August 16    7:30 am-6:30 pm
Weston Peak Proposed Wilderness

Even in the era of GPS navigation, learning to find your way with topographic map and compass is fun--and can even save your life. This trip will explore riparian valleys in Weston’s wildflower-strewn eastern realm below timberline. Participants will experience a maximum of 500 foot elevation gain on this moderate five- mile hike with several stream crossings.  We will also learn about the wilderness potential of Weston Peak and other nearby Wild Ten areas.

Thirtynine-mile Mountain Proposed Wilderness

Got a GPS unit for Christmas and still not sure how to use it?  Learn the basics of GPS navigation and the wilderness future of Thirtynine-mile and other nearby Wild Ten areas on this hike. Aspen groves should be prime for photography, too.  The moderately-strenuous six-mile hike, on and off trail, will gain a maximum of 1,000 feet in elevation.  Well-behaved, leashed dogs welcome.
